Lost a Nissan Altima Intelligent Key, need a spare or see a key warning in Wilmington or Leland? Describe the warning and which functions still operate when you call Prime Sec. We review the vehicle equipment and supported key work before choosing a replacement part or arranging mobile service.

“Key not detected” is a symptom, not a parts order
Say whether the remote buttons unlock the doors, whether a mechanical component operates a door and whether another key starts the vehicle. A fob may be missing, damaged, weakly powered or no longer recognized; the warning alone does not establish the cause. Keep the existing fob and any remaining keys available for assessment.
Nissan’s 2025 Altima Intelligent Key battery reference explains that a fully discharged key battery requires a special starting procedure and points owners to the vehicle manual. That is guidance for the documented model year, not one set of instructions for every Altima. Use the correct reference for your own vehicle before assuming how backup starting works.
Missing Intelligent Key or a working spare?
If no usable key remains, describe an all-keys-lost request at the start of the call. Mention any broken fob or untested key you still possess. A new key must be suitable for the vehicle and provide the functions agreed in the service scope; a remote case sold online is not proof that the vehicle will authorize it for starting.
When another key still works, identify it and explain that you want a spare. Ask whether existing keys must be present for the proposed work. If a usable key is locked inside the car, choose car lockout help first. Access to the cabin and replacement of a missing key are separate jobs.
Door access, remote buttons and starting authorization
An equipped mechanical backup, remote buttons and electronic starting should be discussed as individual functions. Tell us what you need restored rather than asking only for “a Nissan key.” If the housing is broken but a function still works, keep the pieces together until the request has been assessed. Do not force a damaged blade or dismantle electronics to diagnose the vehicle.
Read key fob replacement and programming for the part-selection questions, or mechanical cutting versus starting authorization for the difference between a cut component and an electronically recognized key. Similar Nissan remotes can have different requirements; appearance and button count do not complete a compatibility check.
Prepare an Altima service description
- The full model year and the ignition control you actually use.
- Whether all keys are missing or another key starts the car.
- The exact warning text and any difference between remaining keys.
- Which remote buttons and mechanical access functions still work.
- The vehicle parking location and any access needed to reach it.
- Identification and confirmation that you may request vehicle key work.
Nissan Altima key questions
Is replacing a battery the same as replacing a missing key?
No. Battery service concerns an existing remote. It does not provide a missing key, establish compatibility of another fob or authorize that replacement for starting. Describe the actual situation before selecting the service.
Can an online Intelligent Key be programmed?
The vehicle and exact remote need to be checked before the request is accepted. A used or mismatched part may not be suitable. Contact Prime Sec before buying a remote for a programming appointment.
What is included in a replacement-key price?
Confirm the part, mechanical backup work, electronic functions and mobile visit included in the proposed estimate. An all-keys-lost appointment and a spare-key visit may require different preparation. Review changes to the scope before approval.
