MINI Key Replacement: Match the Generation First

CAR KEY HELP · MINI

A MINI key should be identified by the vehicle generation and year before the replacement conversation moves to parts. Keep the existing remote and any blade available and say whether at least one key still starts the vehicle.

An old reference has a limited scope

MINI’s published 2004 Hardtop manual includes replacement-key information for that vehicle. It is useful for an owner of the documented model, but it should not be applied to a newer MINI as a battery, fob or programming specification. Select the correct owner’s reference for the actual car.

Manufacturer reference: 2004 MINI Hardtop owner-manual reference.

Explain the physical problem

A broken shell, missing blade and key that is completely gone are different concerns. Report whether remote buttons, mechanical access and starting still work. If a second key works normally, mention that comparison. Avoid discarding a damaged original before the required scope is assessed.

Ask before purchasing a remote

Confirm suitability for the exact MINI and ask whether the proposed task requires a manufacturer-specific route. For mobile inquiries in Wilmington or Leland, provide the parking location and establish authorization. Review the parts, current availability and finished functions before arranging a visit.
